CHARGE FROM NEWLY INDUCTED PRESIDENT ROBYN CURRY
Good Evening
Firstly would like to thank ADG Stanford Charlton & Mrs. Charlton for choosing to be in Eleuthera tonight. A very special Thank You to Past President Jackie and her team for truly making us “The Best Little Club in the Galaxy” winning a platinum award at the recent District conference. She has definitely left some large shoes to follow!
But it is a new day in the life of the Rotary club of Eleuthera.
Paul Harris said, “Rotary is not an organization for retrospection. It is rather one whose worth and purpose lie in future activity rather than past performance.”
Yes, our little club since day one has accomplished much in four short years, but where are we going? What do we want to see happen 5 years from now? How will get there? As in both our personal & business lives, in order to get where we want to be, we have to know where we are going and the only way to get there is with a plan.
Rotary International Board in their wisdom created a Strategic Plan which is a guideline for our clubs to follow. Under this plan we are asked to Support & Strengthen our Clubs through Membership Growth & Engagement. Membership growth is not just an increase in number, but a growth in a member’s involvement in his /her club by volunteering oneself for the activities of the club whether it is a service project or a club committee rather being asked. Leading from the front or leading by example, or becoming more enthused about Rotary.
One of my goals for this year is to provide greater support to our Youth Services Rotaract, Interact and Early Act Clubs. The Early Actors supporting an international project “One Million Bones” which brings awareness to problem of genocide in the world, when many of their peers perhaps don’t what is genocide. Interactors, taking the lead in enhancing the appearance of their school surroundings, not to mention participating for the first time and placing third in the Model United Nations sessions (MUNS) in Nassau. Rotaract, President Elect Mark stepping up to take the leadership role after Jerry Roker skipped town. This is how we “lead from the front”
July 1st will surely be a new day, when we launch Future Visions, Rotary Foundation’s new Global Grants model. As RI second strategic priority, we are asked to focus and increase our humanitarian service by applying for grants for bigger, more sustainable and impactful service projects. We look forward to supporting plans to obtain a mammogram machine for Eleuthera as we are all aware of the challenges with Breast Cancer we are faced with here on the island.
We would like to once again thank the Rotary Club of Rancho Cotati for partnering with us in our second matching grant of $12,200.00 for the purchasing of a chipper machine for SEEP’s “mulching for Mergency” program. Through this program we will partner with The South Eleuthera Emergency Partners and The Peace & Justice Center to provide a mentorship program for “At- Risk” young men.
Rotarians, this is the reason why we have a goal of 100% sustainable membership and a goal of achieving 100% Paul Harris Fellows for our club over the next 3 years.
The third priority is to enhance public Image and awareness. With IPP Jackie as our new Public Image Director, we have no need to concern ourselves too much about this, however each of us have an obligation to “SELL” Rotary, not only by wearing our regalia’s or selling changeover tickets, let us show our full support for all Rotary events. Who we (Rotary) are, what we do and why it matters should come after your manners…J
Fellow Rotarians, I believe it is only when we “reach within” ourselves to engage Rotary and truly experience the passion, not only will our lives change; we will change lives, “Engage Rotary”… Thank You.
