District Governor 2014 Message

Message from District Governor -  Jeremy Hurst

Dear fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors and Family of Rotary,

Michelle and I wish you, your families and loved ones, all the very best for a healthy, happy and prosperous 2014.

Fittingly, January is Awareness Month and as we start the second half of our Rotary year what better time for us to be aware of and reflect on the successes and challenges of the past six months and decide how we’re going to move forward over the next six with our family, professional and, of course, Rotary lives. Awareness can come on a lot of levels, but often its starts with being truthful with ourselves. In doing so we can ask ourselves questions like:

Have I been the Rotarian I could and should have been during the first six months of this Rotary year?

What can I do to make my club more effective and a better experience for all its members including myself?

Is my club truly aware of and meeting the most pressing needs of our communities?

Am I a fully “Engaged” Rotarian?

The great news is that having visited 65 of our 83 Rotary Clubs, District 7020 has some of the most vibrant and effective Rotary Clubs with passionate, dedicated Rotarians, in the Rotary World, delivering tremendous service to our communities and I personally would like to thank each and every one of you for the commitment and dedication you have shown in living our motto of “Service Above Self” throughout District 7020 over the past 6 months. This is something we can rightly be proud of and I have no doubt that generally we are a highly “Engaged District”.

So as we enter 2014, we need to ensure we build on this. Now is the time to work even harder to complete the tasks we set ourselves from the beginning of our New Rotary Year, last July, and in particular, over the next three months, let’s recommit to support our Presidents in achieving the goals they have set for our clubs and make sure we enjoy ourselves in the process! Perhaps the most important level of awareness we can have at this point therefore is that each of us can make a real difference if we re-engage ourselves in Rotary during 2014.

So let’s rise to this challenge and enjoy the rest of this Rotary year as we continued to “Engage Rotary - Change Lives”.
